Tesla to Launch Robotaxi Service in Austin by June, Elon Musk Announces
Tesla Inc. is preparing to launch its first commercial robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, as early as June, according to CEO Elon Musk. The initial phase will deploy 10 to 20 supervised Model Y vehicles equipped with the company’s "Full Self-Driving" software, with plans for rapid U.S. expansion later this year.
A new autonomous vehicle dubbed the "Cybercab"—designed without traditional controls—is in development for a 2026 production target at a $30,000 price point. Regulatory hurdles, particularly in California, remain a critical challenge for scaling the service.
